I’m a Gleek

I am not ashamed to admit it….I love Glee! I have just watched the episode that aired after the Superbowl (Black Eyed Peas where pretty bad tbh) and loved it.
I really wish I could sing and be part of something like that. I have done a little bit of performing when I was at school in our school orchestra, I play the Clarinet, and I got such a buzz out of it. This probably explains why I enjoy podcasting so much!
My university does have a Glee club, but from what I have seen of it, I don’t think its really taken off sadly.
There is another episode out on the states on Tuesday night, their Valentines episode…..Finn and Quin getting back together????
Internships
My course at Uni (MSc Computer Science) has a year out in industry of which I am going through the application process at the moment. I have so far applied to 4 places, and am at varying stages:
- Microsoft – Attended the Assessment Centre, await to see If I have a job
- Detica – Got an interview in the next couple of weeks
- London Olympic Games Organising Committee – Made it through the first stage
- BBC – Submitted application, awaiting response
I am very keen on the Microsoft position and am determined to get the job as I have been through a telephone interview, logical reasoning tests, and a day long assessment centre! I have had some contact from them, and it wasn’t a “Sorry we don’t want you”, so I have some hope!
A free bit of advice to everyone applying to a placement, or a job in general, do your research! I haven’t been asked any trick questions, but it is good to know your stuff about the company.
So I hope to find out next week about Microsoft, so everyone please keep your fingers crossed!
January Joys and OneNote Fun!

So it is that wonderful time of the year when the fun of Christmas and New Year parties are over, and the only thing looming over 17-24 year olds are exams.
First it was AS-Level, then A2-Level and now University exams. In a few weeks I have four exams. Operating Systems and Networks, Formal Specification, 2D Graphic Algorithms and Requirements Analysis in case you were wondering.
This year I have decided to use OneNote 2010 as a revision tool. I say tool, but I spent the 4 hours playing with it and setting it up how I like. I will do some work in it at some point!
The one think I really like is the ability to embed documents. For example, I have embedded all my lecture slides and notes into different pages, where I will type up the key stuff to be revised. So far this has been very handy as I don’t need to hunt down through my computer to find the PowerPoint presentation or PDF document.
I have also been filling in more internship applications, and am currently applying for a position in the BBC R&D department. I now have a profound dislike for any question that requires more than a sentence long response!
I will blog again soon about my other application, including Microsoft, but for now, back to revision!….or more likely, TWiT!
Christmas Joy!
I hope you all had a great Christmas, and that Santa was kind! I didn’t have a very techy Christmas this year, more of a practical one.

As I am starting my internship year next Summer, I got lots of Shirts, Ties, Cufflinks etc as well as a coat that I have had my eye on for a while.
I did get some tech. My old 8GB memory stick is on its last legs, so got a new 16GB Kingston one from my brother, and a set of in-ear headphone from my other brother, a marked improvement from my iPod ones!
I have been busy editing my videos from the #ukmspmeetup, and it will be online shortly. Also under Olivier:Digital, my webdesign business, I have just launched my latest job, 10SecondReviews.co.uk. This is a film reviews site for a guy I met that works for the BBC as a reporter and film reviewer. There is still work to be done on it, but I pushed it out with a few features still to come!
Hope you all have a great New Year!
